Why does my central heating need power flushing or a descale?

A build up of sludge and scale can block parts of your central heating system which if left to get worse can lead to much larger problems. Your system may also contain rust which produces gases. This will create gas pockets that cannot be heated.

Tell tale signs

When your central heating system needs power flushing or de-scaling there are tell tales signs to look out for. Firstly feel each radiator at the bottom when the heating is turned on. If the radiator is cold at the bottom this is an indication that there is a build of sludge. Alternatively if the top of the radiator is cold the rust in your central heating is creating pockets of gas. If the whole of the radiator is cold this is very likely due to blocked valves and pipes. An Irritating boiler noise from sludge or lime scale build up is a warning sign of imminent costly problems and having heating engineer correct the problem asap is vital.

You may also notice little or no hot water being generated from your taps due to blocked pipes and heat exchangers. The whole heating system may also grind to a halt including the boiler. This may be due to a blocked pump.

Power flush guarantee

Our power flushing guarantees a complete system clean. It will remove all the build up of sludge and rust. If we also find that the heating system needs de-scaling our heating engineers will de-scale the system 24 hours before power flushing.

It gives me great pleasure to write this letter to express our gratitude to the plumber who visited our house on the 2nd of September. My wife said that the engineer was very helpful, explained what he had done and advised her how to avoid problems with our water heating in future. Last night we again lost pressure downstairs. My wife carried out the engineer’s instructions and the problem (air bubbles in the pipes we think) was solved.
